The Burton Building, Dame Street, Dublin 2
Conservation and Internal fit out of important Art Deco building. Fit-out for use as third level educational facility. The client’s brief required the refurbishment of three of the upper floors of the building to include the integration of modern services as part of the fit-out for a third level academic institution.
The conservation and integration of important features, including large areas of early 20th Century timber parquet floors, were key components of the project. The problems of solar gain and noise pollution through the large windows overlooking Dame Street were a major issue to be addressed. The design solution involved the sensitive introduction of new double glazed sliding panels of secondary glazing, which were designed to complement the existing glazing bar layout.
