Bluett & O'Donoghue Architects were Project Managers for the construction of the 5-Star Lyrath Hotel and Convention Centre in Kilkenny, in collaboration with Design Architects, John Maginnes of Johannesburg, South Africa.

This development saw the restoration of historic Lyrath House (1725, re-modelled in 1863) as the focus of the complex, combined with substantial new hotel accommodation and convention facilities.

The glazing over the original service yards created a dramatic entrance lobby/atrium which links old and new and frames wonderful views northwards to the rural landscape of Co. Kilkenny.

The topography of the grounds was used to advantage to ensure the 4-storey bedroom wings and the 10m. high Convention Centre remained below the level of the historic structure.

External works included the restoration of the Victorian Parterre Garden by William Nesfield and the continued enhancement of the parkland and reinstatement of Lady Wheeler-Cuffes water gardens are ongoing.

Subsequent projects designed by Bluett & O'Donoghue Architects have been the new leisure pool annex and the Glass Pavillion within the historic walled garden.

The latter facility will cater to conference fringe events and provide a superb venue for wedding receptions.
